There was a heated argument between the deceased and the person who has now been arrested.

Shortly before noon on Friday, the National Police in Manacor received a report of a body in the Via Palma area.

The body, that of a Romanian man, was in a place with shanties. The police were contacted by a woman who lives there. She and the 50-year-old man had been drinking in this place with others on Thursday night. These other people were not around when the woman came across the body.

Officers observed that the man had injuries consistent with violence. The area was cordoned off, and the Homicide Squad was contacted; it is now in charge of investigations. He had been struck on the head with a blunt object, quite possibly an iron bar.

The police established there was a heated argument between the deceased and a suspect, a 47-year-old Moldovan, who was arrested around 7.30pm on Friday. He has initially been charged with homicide.
