A cyclist who free-wheeled down the steps from Bellver Castle in Palma at great speed, narrowly missing tourists and then posting his stunt on social media, has been questioned by Palma police. Officers said they feared that their could be similar copy-cat style stunts.

The police were alerted to the incident when they saw the video on social media of the cyclist going at great speed down the steps narrowly missing tourists who were making the climb upwards.

An investigation was launched and they managed to locate the cyclist who admitted that he was responsible. He was charged with two counts of dangerous behaviour.

A police officer said; "this video proved very popular on social media, despite being highly dangerous. We ask people not to carry out any sort of copy-cat style stunt."

The steps up to Bellver Castle from the El Terreno area of Palma are hugely popular with tourists who are vising the Castle.
