An operation understood to be linked to arrests earlier this month.

The Son Banya shanty town in Palma, often referred to as Mallorca's drugs supermarket, has once more been the scene of a major police operation.

On Friday, dozens of Guardia Civil and National Police officers took part in the operation, which is understood to be linked to recent arrests for money laundering with the proceeds from drugs trafficking.

This is as yet no information regarding arrests in Son Banya, but six people are known to have been arrested following separate raids elsewhere in Palma as well as in Llucmajor, Marratxi, Muro and Soller.

The case exploded on August 11 with the arrests of Stefan Milojevic and Gonzalo Márquez and National Police inspector, Faustino Nogales, along with twelve other people.

Milojevic of the United Tribuns biker group and Márquez, a lawyer, are considered to be the leaders of an organisation engaged in money laundering and drugs trafficking. They were charged with various offences and remanded in custody. Nogales, it is believed, was charged with passing on information; he was also ordered to prison. Details of the case are limited as it is subject to court secrecy.
