On Friday around 4am, two men aged 18 and 20 and of north African origin were arrested in Magaluf by Calvia Police after stealing a tourist's phone; the tourist had gone for a swim.
When they were intercepted, the phone was thrown on the ground. Officers found they were in possession of keys to a car that turned out to have been stolen.
One of the two - the 18-year-old - started to bang on a police car windscreen and then kicked a rear door. He had to be taken to the Santa Ponsa health centre after the car finally arrived at the police station in Son Bugadelles; he had a wound to his head.
During this journey, he issued threats to one of the officers and insulted him. "When I'm released, I'll cut your children's throats in front of you, and then yours too. You are racist, murderous police officers."
Both appeared in court later on Friday. The charges were theft, criminal damage and making serious threats. They were released subject to another court appearance at a later date.
