Nine people have been injured to varying degrees in a traffic accident between a TIB bus and a van on Saturday morning in Porto Cristo. The Mallorca Fire Brigade had to cut the driver of the vehicle free. The SAMU 061 emergency service had to mobilise seven ambulances to assist the victims. The Guardia Civil Traffic brigade has taken charge of the investigation into the incident.
According to official sources, the incident took place at around 9.40 a.m. at kilometre 14 of the Ma-4010, the road linking the towns of Porto Cristo and Cala Mendia. At the roundabout leading to Cala Anguila, according to initial investigations, the driver of the van, which was carrying several tourists, failed to obey a traffic sign and collided head-on with the bus.
The violent collision caused significant damage to the vehicle, trapping the driver inside. A total of seven people were injured, some of them seriously, but their lives are not in danger. Given the seriousness of the accident, three crews from the Mallorca Fire Brigade from the Manacor station and up to seven ambulances were mobilised to assist the injured and transport them to various hospitals.
The fire brigade had to extricate the driver of the car from the wreckage. A patrol from the Guardia Civil Traffic Department also attended the scene and interviewed the bus driver to try to understand what had happened. Traffic on the road was affected for a considerable period of time.
