British pub giant, Wetherspoon, will open its first pub in Spain in January and there is already speculation that Mallorca could be next. It will be its first foray into continental Europe and it will serve its traditional delights with a Spanish twist.
Tim Martin, chairman of the company, already singled out Mallorca as a possible venue for one of his pubs joining the one at Alicante airport which will open in the New Year. It is a further sign of British interest in Spanish airports with WHSmith having a major presence at airports across the country. Others could follow.
Wetherspoon already as a major network at British airports opening its first pub at Heathrow back in 1992. Millions of passengers, including many Britons, pass through Spanish airports every year and the figure keeps on growing.
Weatherspoon in Alicante will be offering some Spanish favourites on their menu including the famous tortilla de patata. It will open at 6am.
There is strong demand for commercial space at Spanish airports. McDonald´s has recently opened their biggest branch in the country at Palma airport.
British investment in Spanish continues to rise despite Brexit and other challenges. Spanish beer giant Estrella Damm has acquired a brewery in Bedford and has spent 70 million pounds on renovation work.
