If you were living in Campos this week you might have thought that you were in northern Europe as temperatures fell to -2 degrees Centigrade on Friday in one of Mallorca´s coldest nights of the year. Campos was the coldest place on the island by quite a big margin with Santanyi, Escorca and Llucmajor in second place with 2 degrees Centigrade.
The difference in temperatures was quite pronounced with both Andratx and Pollensa registering a respectable and " Mallorca style" minimum temperature of nine degrees.
So why is it so cold in Campos? Well, according to the boffins at Palma Met Office, it is all part of weather patterns with cold air masses moving in from the north bringing down temperatures. Strong also contributed to making it feel even colder.
Considerable amounts of snow fell in mountain areas on Friday. There is already talk of a white Christmas in Mallorca especially in Campos in Mallorca´s farming heartland. But some residents stated that you can talk about a white Christmas until the cows come home, it is never going to happen.
There was a big improvement in the weather today with some sunshine and relatively high temperatures even in Campos!
