A striking scene unfolded this morning at the Royal Nautical Club of Palma (RCNP) facilities, where the marine team mobilised to rescue the carcass of a striped dolphin that had been spotted in waters near the port in recent days.
Working in coordination with technicians from the Palma Aquarium Foundation, who manage such incidents and contacted the club, the team successfully transferred the deceased marine mammal to shore.
The specimen, a striped dolphin, was recovered by RCNP's marine crew, who deployed a semi-rigid launch to carry out the operation, as reported by Gaceta NĂ¡utica. The professionals from the Palma Aquarium Foundation will now perform a necropsy on the cetacean to determine the exact cause of its death.
The striped dolphin (Stenella coeruleoalba) is a cetacean belonging to the Delphinidae family within the Odontoceti suborder. It's the most common cetacean in the Mediterranean, characterised by its streamlined yet more robust body compared to other species of the same genus.
