A blaze erupted on Saturday afternoon in the refuse area of a hotel in Palmanova, prompting the evacuation of around 360 guests. The Mallorca Fire Brigade arrived swiftly, managing to contain the flames before they could spread further. No injuries were reported.
The alarm was raised shortly after 5pm when a dense plume of black smoke became visible from the beach. Holidaymakers and residents in the vicinity contacted emergency services without delay. Response teams included officers from the Calvia Local Police, the Civil Guard, and multiple fire units.
Authorities chose to clear the hotel as a safety measure, moving hundreds of guests outside while firefighters tackled the blaze. From the pavement, evacuated guests watched as firefighters manoeuvred hoses and raised ladders in a coordinated effort to bring the blaze under control. By around 6pm, they were given the all-clear to return to their rooms.
Investigators from the Civil Guard have since taken over the case. Early indications suggest the fire may have been sparked by a discarded cigarette, possibly thrown from one of the hotel rooms.
Officials continue to examine the scene to confirm the origin of the blaze, while praising the rapid coordination between emergency services, which prevented what could have been a far more serious incident.
