The Americans are coming! In the first quarter of this year sales of homes to U.S. citizens in Spain rose by a record breaking 57 percent with Mallorca being one of the top spots. This is all despite the end of Spain´s Golden Visa which proved especially attractive to non-European Union home buyers.
Informed sources consulted by the Bulletin said that there had been a massive increase in the number of U.S. residents and holidaymakers to the Balearics. Later this month the direct flights from New York to Palma will get underway and will last for the summer.
Mallorca hotels which traditionally had the British as their main market are now saying that the Americans are Number 1 and some are in the five star category. American investment is also flooding in.
Some sources have blamed U.S. President Donald Trump for the big exodus from the United States with Spain, Greece and Portugal being the preferred choice for many Americans. Both Greece and Portugal still maintain their Golden visas. Spain decided to scrap its visa system despite it being hugely popular with both Britons and Americans.
The Mallorca Tourist industry is hoping that there will be more direct flights from the U.S. to Palma over the coming years.
