The lovely Welsh actress, Catherine Zeta-Jones, has traded the gothic halls of the Addams Family mansion and the Nevermore Academy for the golden sands of Mal Pas Beach in Alcudia, Mallorca. In Booking.com’s latest 30-second advert, she steps into the iconic role of Morticia Addams, blending dark sophistication with Mediterranean sunshine in a delightfully unexpected way.
The video opens with Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams perched elegantly on a large black chair, engrossed in a book—likely Goody’s Book (fans of Netflix’s Wednesday will get the reference!). Adding a touch of humour to the gothic elegance, she appears to be wearing flippers on her feet, a quirky nod to the sunny beach setting that contrasts hilariously with her dark, mysterious persona.
The advert kicks off with a beachgoer, her eyes widening in disbelief: “Did I just see Morticia Addams? I was checking out this gorgeous beach resort I found on Booking.com, and that’s when I saw her. OMG!” On screen, Zeta-Jones, fully in character, addresses her on-screen children with her signature dark flair: “Wednesday, stop tazing your brother. To travel is to live… but to live is to die!” The line lands perfectly, mixing Morticia’s macabre humour with the sunny, playful beach setting.
In Netflix's Wednesday, Catherine Zeta-Jones portrays Morticia Addams, the elegant and enigmatic matriarch of the Addams family. In Season 2, she returns to Nevermore Academy, where her psychic abilities and past connections to the institution come into focus. Her character's deep affection for her daughter, Wednesday, adds emotional depth to the series, highlighting the complexities of their relationship.
Filming of the spot is believed to have taken place in May. Catherine Zeta-Jones is no stranger to Mallorca, where she and her husband, Michael Douglas, own the stunning s'Estaca estate in Valldemossa. The famous actor paid $3.5 million for s’Estaca in 1990 and put it up for sale first for £60 million in 2014, then for £32 million in 2019, and, unable to find a buyer, finally decided to take it off the market. Now he and his wife spend long periods in the house, which has been extensively renovated over the years.
